Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP's) are individuals in the school setting that are willing to be trained by the school's RN to complete specific delegated tasks. These tasks are ones that non-medical professionals can complete that are not solely dependent on an RN's scope of work.
UAP's must receive an initial training and 1-2 annual check-ups from an RN in order to remain a certified UAP and capable of completing delegated tasks. Tasks that an RN can delegate to a UAP are: health screenings, ADL (activities of daily living), diabetes care, seizure care & emergency medication, asthma care, medication administration, Epipens, and transporting/lifting.

TCA 49-50-1602 also speaks to volunteer school staff assisting with medication administration. You could add a check off for that I’m including a resource you could review, modify, and adopt for staff assisting with oral medications.
