THIS WEBPAGE CONTAINS RESOURCES TO EDUCATE GERMANTOWN MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (GMSD) YOUTH AND CITIZENS ABOUT THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF USING TOBACCO PRODUCTS.
According to Tennessee's Youth Risk Behavior Survey, the percentage of high school students who are currently smoking cigarettes on a daily basis has dropped from 11.3% to 2% since 1993. With the introduction of alternative smoking devices (e-cigarettes/vape products), the percentage of high school students who are currently using e-cigarettes daily is 11.7%. Germantown Municipal School District (GMSD) has also seen an increase the use vaping products and/or JUUL use by middle and high school students. Most vape products and ALL JUULs contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that can harm adolescent brain development and has been associated with health and behavior problems. The well-being of our students is paramount and we would like to provide the following resources to help combat the growing use of e-cigarette among our youth.
GMSD PARTNERS WITH CATCH
(YOUTH VAPE PREVENTION PROGRAM)
Since 2017, Germantown Municipal Schools has implemented the CATCH My Breath youth e-cigarette program in its middle and high school physical education programs. The program provides students with the skills to resist peer pressure and media influences to try E-cigarettes. Click here for more program information..
